Vance, Interesting idea with the exhaust cam. Did you have it made custom or reworked the original exhaust cam? I have the Delta exhaust system and headers on one of my cars. Purchased long time ago. It was easy to install on the car, has a nice sound. Loudness is a personal thing. Some would say the sound is loud, others have said it's sounds great. If you haven't talked with Mike yet, I'll see him tomorrow, Tuesday, and will ask about the availability of the exhaust system. I'll need one also for the other JH restoration project I'm currently doing. Art

Vance, The problem with the lighter is a small nylon washer/insulator after decades it gets brittle and falls apart creating that destructive short. It's an easy replacement if you want to keep the lighter in service but as an added measure I put an in line fuse between the lighter and the rest of the harness. Regarding the exhaust system you will get it all Freddie, it's one of the nicest aftermarket systems I've installed. As far as sound and volume keep in mind it's been awhile since I installed it and I'm comparing it with an original system that was shot. It's not louder than stock and provides an ear pleasing burble.

?Fuse for cigarette lighter? This is already fused by the bottom fuse which has the purple wires("always HOT, but fused) coming out of it. This fuse is supposed to, and has for MANY others, blown when a short happens at the lighter. If someone has rewired or incorrectly wired the cigarette lighter, then yes, a fuse inline for it is necessary, as the cigarette lighter was the most common cause for the bottom fuse to blow.

Vance, When I bought my 75JH 20152 it had a S&S 4-1 header. I had the header sent out for Jet coating. Added a single exhaust system. Nice fitting system and engine exhaust sounds great. There is noise, a little louder than stock but a nice rumble. I like the sound. One person not familiar with lotus engine (or any other European sports car) thought it had a V8 sound. Keep up the good work. It takes someone who cares and do their own work on a JH. Chuck

Bruce, Call it insurance or a back up. When I got my J/H it had no fusebox just a hole in the firewall where it used to be and a knot of wires and in line fuses stuffed into the hole. After the original w/h melted down I traced the lighter down to one of the in line fuses and found the PO had used a 20 amp US fuse!

I can use the cigarette lighter with no key in the ignition. This has come in handy as it allowed me to connect the station memory of my radio to the lighter so that it retains the station presets at all times. I just assumed that it would be identical in the JH, and after reading about the lighter shorting out to the drive line tunnel, I put in an extra fuse. I never consulted the schematic. My bad. =:-o Vance Last edited on 12-10-2025 05:39 pm by vnavaret |

Vance, To the best of my knowledge all cigarette lighters are wired to the battery (always hot) as to whether or not they are fused or how they are fused is the variable. The lighter in my '67 El Camino is always hot, hey when you gotta smoke you gotta smoke you can't be fumbling around with your keys! Funny thing is nobody smokes anymore but you still need that cigarette lighter to charge your phone although nobody would dare call it a cigarette lighter, it's a power station! Bruce is right as it comes from the factory the car was protected at the fusebox. In my case for whatever reason a PO had removed the fusebox and replaced it with 3 or 4 in line fuses stuffed in a tangle of wires behind the firewall and to make matters worse he obviously didn't understand the difference between US and Brit fuses and way over fused it. Once the lighter shorted there was nothing to protect the wiring harness. The good news is though after the w/h melted down the fuses were still good!

Vance, I checked with Mike at Delta and he doesn't have any exhaust systems in stock. Not sure when he will have any. He needs to find a new local shop. Currently he gets the pieces and sends them to California and someone there makes the bend piece and then ships back to Mike. Time to look for a good local shop.

Don't forget when you drop a nut in the shop it will ALWAYS roll under the work bench!
