Mates, I test drove a 1975 JH that I ultimately purchased a couple of days ago. It was my first time ever driving a JH. The one issue (well, maybe the most glaring issue) I found is that the brake pedal was extremely hard to press. With significant force, it did slow the car, but I don't think I ever made it over about 15 or 20 mph. It felt very different from every other car I have ever driven, primarily that it took so much force. Is this normal? It did have a v6 swap in it, and I wonder if perhaps there is no vacuum assist, assuming of course, that a 1975 JH brake system needs vacuum assist. Maybe this is a brake booster issue? Any help is greatly appreciated. TIA Michael

Normally brake pedal action doesn't feel particularly different from other LBCs, for example it feels about the same as my TR7. Did you check connections on the brake servo?

Hi Noomg, Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, prior to driving the JH< the oldest car I had driven was probably a 1985 something or other. I did not have a chance to check the brake servo, I plan to pick up the car later this week. I'll probably take a quick look, or longer, before I drive off, but is it accurate the servo needs vacuum? If so, I'll bring some hose to try and make a connection, if I can find a vacuum port on the engine. Is a hard pedal a sign of a bum servo? Michael, Yes the Jensen-Healey has a servo or vacuum assist braking system. The vacuum is taken off a nipple on the rear of the intake manifold. Normally there would be a vacuum line from there to a white plastic fitting at the top of the servo. Even with a different motor it should have a vacuum take off somewhere on it's intake manifold. Before considering a servo rebuild I'd make sure all vacuum connections are good. Also did you ask the seller about the hard braking?

As has been stated, there is a booster for all the J-Hs as well as the Gts(slightly larger). At this point in time, they are almost all "going bad" na need to be rebuilt(test your with a vacuum tester) Here is a company that can rebuild them(and powder coat them if you wish): Booster Materials and Parts Owner--Scott (260) 426-3331•Mobile 800 Shetman Blvd Fort Wayne, IN 46808
