I thought I saw someone post info on an aluminum radiator for the JH. Anyone know of one that's available? I may just go with the 3 core from JHPS but would like to get an idea on the cost of a sexy aluminum one. . .

Joel, There is no drop-in aluminum replacement, but you can get Griffen, Afco, et. al. to build you a custom one ($$$$). I'm running a Scirroco style one on the 910/907 hybrid, but it required a custom installation that' not for the timid. judson

I looked into aluminum radiators a while back and made up a drawing for a drop-in replacement. Ron Davis and Griffin were up for it. Afco couldn't do the necessary dimensions. Fluidyne shut down their custom shop. As I recall I was looking at over $700 for a custom with all the features I wanted. Haven't ruled it out but it moved way down the priority list. I'll probably end up going with a U.S. Radiator re-core on mine. PC.

My understanding is that US Radiators makes some pretty junky stuff, typical big auto parts chain rubbish these days. They are notorious for failure and do not seem to have high regard in the industry to say the least. Sorry to be blunt, but as I see it, saving money on poor quality products is a fool's game in my experience. The Club Store's remanufactured radiators are very high quality cores that are manufactured in California by Craig, they only sell wholesale. All rebuilding is done locally for us by highly skilled professionals that are deservedly proud of their work, and you get a high quality product that will last many years.

...and not only top performance high quality stuff as Greg rightfully noted, but you keep the car stock looking too. And for me this counts heavily too. I mean, my new 2.2L engine is 210BHP and has lots of torque so i want to make sure it gets the right cooling in all kinds of conditions. But my choice is definitely the JHPS recored stock radiator! Better performance over the stock 2 core and vintage. ...oh and did i tell you...$290 (what a bargain considering the $700 for a custom alu one) Erik, Netherlands

I have one of these in my car and know of a second one in a friend's car. Both fit well out of the box and are of high quality. It cools at least as well and maybe better than a traditional 3 row.

I have a champion 3 core in my jensen. It has stopped my overheating and was a good fit. Cost around 200.00. Looks great well worth the money. Look on ebay they come up from time to time then sell out fast.

This Champion 3 row core radiator was the second thing I got for VIN #11602. The cap will draw coolant back from an overflow tank when the engine has cooled off. The one in the car that it came with did not and the radiator was two row original copper and needed to be re-cored. It had more green patina than black paint for a finish! The Champion at $200 is a great deal. It has a very nice brass drain cock. Solid tabs to mount to the body and very nice welds. I teflon tapped the over flow nipple in the neck of the radiators opening to assure it was water tight. I have repositioned and re-plumbed the overflow tank so that the oil lines clear it and that it sits down as low as I can get it in the engine compartment. Now there is room for a cold air intake above this tank if I find the induction roar of the Webers too much through the pair of K&N filters and trumpets!

The Griffin universal radiator 26221-XS fits the GT with minor modifications and only costs 173$ but next time I would probably order one which is just an inch smaller so I wouldn't have to make the holes for the oil cooler hoses bigger. Photos will follow as soon as the job is completly finished.

I had a look at this for my GT but the tube size is listed as one inch (25.4mm) instead of 32mm and the picture shows the inlet and outlet as diagonally opposite from where they should be. Are you sure the part number listed is correct? Gordon

The number should be correct. it s top fitting at passenger side (for LHD) and bottom fitting at the drivers side which is the same as original. Just the filler cap is at the other side. You are correct about the tube size. Also the outlet is a bit bigger but Summit sells an adapter hose which fits the rad and the engine. http://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/gri-1-26221-xs this is the link to the rad I bought. Following changes I had to make: 1: cut the radiator frame at the drivers side to make room for the bigger water tanks (from U shape to L shapr) 2: move the oil cooler hoses a bit closer to the mud guards (drill the hole where the hoses go to a bit bigger) 3: make new brackets for anybody interested I am happy to sejd pics Last edited on 11-02-2014 09:32 pm by Schorse |

I googled Griffin 25221-xs and went to Griffins web site http://www.griffinrad.com/load_details7.php...26221-xs You can see the tube dimensions are different. Also tried http://www.shopdaza.com/.../3659--griffin-radiator-1-26221-xs-classiccool-26-x-16-2... On this site the inlet and outlet are diagonally opposed to where they should be as well as the tube dimensions being one inch. Seems to be multiple choices so congratulations on finding one that suits.

I just googled 26221 and always find the same although I do remember that once the description was wrong... the 26221 x and 26221 xs are basically the same the xs just has a straight outlet. Here's a warning for J-H owners: recently, we put one of the CHAMPION aluminum radiators on a "75 J-H. The radiator has an excellent reputation(can no longer get the 4 row ones) and a very good price compared to the staggered copper 3 row ones. Being a '75, the long thin fan blade remained on it with about 3/4' of space at the bottom of the radiator-to-fan blades. Everything was fine for about a week when I was informed that the fan blades had torn open a few tubes at the bottom of the radiator!. Apparently, at very high RPMs the thin blades flexed enough forward to hit the bottom of the radiator!. A new one was ordered and we retrofitted a yellow fan, which is smaller and has thicker blades(the pollution stuff had been removed long ago).

I have the Champion radiator and a electric fan with thermo switch set to 190° on / 170° off. Seams to work okay. Alternator keeps up with the necessary current even with lights on. A bit easier on the water pump.
