When I removed my instrument panel 2 metal plates fell out.  They were apparently attached between the top of the panel and the under side of the dashboard and held in place by the two panel attachment screws.  What is the function of these plates?  How should they be included in the reinstallation of the panel?

The metal plates were glued to the foam in the dash and are used to hold the dash panel in place.  The foam deteriates and the plates rust.  I don't know of any way to reinstall the plates into the dash.  I used 1/4 plywood in place fo the plates.  I had to cut the foam to countersink the wood.  I installed them with silicon glue and small screws angled into the foam.  When reinstalling the dash panel don't over tighten these screws.

Thanks, Arvin.  That sounds like a practical solution.  And plywood doesn't rust!
