The heater in the car I just bought is disconnected and all the connections are capped off. The PO said the heat works but he didn’t like how the hoses were routed so he disconnected everything. I was thinking of trying to reconnect but I need to pick up new hoses. Is the heater hose 3/4”? Does anyone have photos how they get routed? Thank you.

Standard 5/8" heater hose supplied by most auto outlets, the factory one had a bend near the fire wall, looks nice and a bit cleaner but not required. check the Delta Motorsports site I'm sure they have a photo on the routing. Brett.

Mine uses 5/8" hose. Below is a pic of how they run. The hose going to the intake manifold is connected to the lower port on the heater, though I am not sure if this is standard or if it matters. It works OK as is. The loop in the vacuum line going to the control valve looks weird, but is the only way I could see to route it. Engine bay pics of other JH's also have this, so I think it is the original routing. Attachment: heater hose routing.jpg (Downloaded 143 times)

A word of caution: The heater is prone to rusting out. Before connecting to the cooling system, I would connect the hoses to the heater only, put in some water and make sure it does not leak out into the interior. Better water on the rugs than coolant.

In talking with the PO he said there was no valve. Just the hoses that connect to the heater. Anyone else set up this way? Mine is a later model. #20180.

As I remember, the heater valve worked off engine vacuum. So you would operate a lever on the center counsel which would open a local air valve which allowed the engine vacuum hose connected to the heater valve in the engine compartment to open the heater valve. The only thing more confusing then the above description is the design concept itself. IMO, it equaled the plastic fuel "T" in brilliance. It was a source of undetectable vacuum leaks which could cause rough engine idling. I replaced mine with a lever operated heater valve from a Volkswagen. I do have to go under the hood to turn it on and off. Off in summer, on in winter. Remember, it is the heater fan that blows the hot air but that is still controlled from the center counsel switch. My serial number is 17303. Also, I second Tom Bradley's suggestion to test and clean the heater first. Take care and good luck.
