Ed, Do you know for sure your the booster is bad? Brake problems are usually found elsewhere, brake boosters are usually pretty bulletproof. When it comes to restorations there are basically two ways to go. Put it up on blocks and start at square one or you can do a rolling restoration. With the first you'll get everything done at once but you won't be able to drive it for years. The second way is to drive it and fix things as the pop up that won't keep it off the road for years like bearing replacement, floorboard repair, or suspension rebuild, etc. With the second choice you can drive it for two or three years decide if you like it enough to go full blown resto or move on to something else. Should you decide to sell you'll have a driver to sell rather than a disassembled project. If you decide it's worth a resto by that time you'll know exactly what it will need.

If you are in So Cal, and booster is bad (mine was) ABS Power Brake near the Orange circle fixed mine. Sounds like you have bigger fish to fry, though. ABS Power Brake 233 N. Lemon St. Orange, CA 92866 714 771-6549

The booster is probably good, I was just thinking it would be a good idea to replace all the 50 year old rubber bits in at least the braking system. Some of the brake lines are looking corroded so will replace them too. Thank you for the link to ABS brakes, I'll be contacting them. The plan is definitely for piecemeal restoration, fix things as they break and slowly go through the car cleaning/fixing/replacing as needed. By the time most things have been gone over I should be familiar enough with it that stripping it for a full respray won't be so daunting. Thanks all!

30243 Last registered in 2010. A highly modified three year restoration was completed in 2003 by the late James Albeck, a long respected member of the Austin Healey community. Major tune up, all hoses, fluids and filters changed and electrical work was required to get the car road worthy. 3 on board computers, 22 fuses, 11 relays and 119 wires had to be traced and identified with some replacement and repair. More items will need attention as the car is driven and enjoyed. Attachment: IMG_2290.jpg (Downloaded 157 times)

Interesting to see the chrome-topped Healey bumper. Is that a straight swap - I thought I saw somewhere that the big bumpers had different brackets? Do you have a chrome topped bumper at the rear too?

Hello everyone, VIN NUMBER: 18736 Car is in good condition and I drive it every chance I get. Located on Bainbridge Island in Washington state. It's a rubber bumper 4 speed. MANUFACTRE DATE: 10/30/74 ENGINE NUMBER: B74 09 8885 Recent work: complete front suspension, upgraded master cylinder, all new brake lines, gear reduction starter, seat foams and upholstery, carb rebuild, brake rotors, and wheel bearings. Still cheaper than therapy, but not by much.

‘74 mkII, VIN 18205; engine B74.09.9010; manu date 8/10/74 Bought it mid ‘21 and currently has 59,660 miles. Yellow with tan interior. Interior all original best I can tell. No rust at all. Body has been resprayed yellow (good but not great with some overspray, sanding marks etc). LF fender was r&r’d at some point it seems so some previous damage or issue and the respray may be the result(?). Color a bit off from the original yellow (you may be able to see the difference in the engine bay shot) so anybody know the paint code for the original yellow? May want to do it right some day… In very good condition overall. Engine strong and original with >140lb compression all cylinders. So far only done some maintenance work - belts and tensioner, valve cover gaskets, (strombergs) carbs rebuilt, steering rack resealed etc, all new hoses and coolant sys cleaned flushed including radiator, brake master cyl replacement and other bits of repairs and corrections as I find stuff. Ball joints and bushings next bigger job. Had big Healeys in the past and then moved over to Alfas but always wanted one of these since they first came out in early 70’s. I’d post pics but no matter how ‘small’ I make the files I’m told file too big. My 1st post so maybe I dunno whatI’m doing.
