I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for on this site but I was unable to contact Richard Calver to give him the information. About 20 years ago 19925 was crushed. This was a friend's car with a Ford 260 V8 that had been rear ended and was totaled. He invited me to come by and take anything off the car I wanted(which I did)before he had it hauled away to the crusher.

I’ve recently acquired 11396 a 1973 MK1. Color is (original) Moss Green, Black interior 87K miles. Working through the car to sort out it’s many, many needs. Also have a 1974 MK2 previously posted.

How did you come by a pre-production prototype? Very cool! What are some differences between it and the Mk1? Could be worthy of a separate thread, or article for Greg's magazine? Last edited on 08-01-2019 03:22 pm by Dakota123 |

When I purchased her, I didn't know she was a prototype. I had been a member of the Jensen Car Club of Australia for about 4 or 5 years when there was a change of president. It was then that Naomi , (The president of JCCA) let me know, I wish I had known sooner. The differences are not too apparent, there is a lot of redundancy fuel lines, connections etc and under the bonnet (hood) and on the fuel tank, the wiring is a bit chaotic, there are about 6 or seven relays so under the bonnet is not as tidy as the production cars. there are also odd little things that I don't think are on production cars like fuel drain cock and an odd welded fitting on the air filter. Also, the interior is two-tone Tan and Black, only one door lock and no interior lights. (I think these are on Door cards on production cars) Its surprising how little rust there is for how old she is, which I down to that additional layer of paint water the fire in the factory.

At some time she was shipped to the states, Possibly for emissions and other testing, then sat around untill she was sold to someone who drove it over there as a normal car probably not knowing what it was, then In 1990 she was imported in a container along with several other cars by someone who had a little business bringing back cars from USA to here (also not knowing or caring that they had inported a prototype. I bought her from a fellow who had lomng since given up on her, sitting in a corner of a garage, not running and scaresly used. (I'm sure he dindt know she wa a prototype either) :)

Brilliant stuff, you should do an article for the JHPS, JCCA and for the JOC.

Just joined this forum a few days ago. I have a 1973 JH (#10458) BRG color. It has been in the family since originally purchased from a dealer located in Long Beach, California. Currently, mileage is ~79,000. Looking forward to learning more about these cars - and keeping them on the road! Attachment: IMG_5369.jpg (Downloaded 123 times)

Long Beach 73, Do you recall what Long Beach dealer it was? Back then I had to trek all the way out to Anaheim to find a dealer(Anaheim Motors) who sold them. As I recall Jamestown Motors carried Triumph, MG, Lotus but no Jensens. Jim Gray Motors sold Triumph and MG and for some reason Boulevard Buick sold TR7s(go figure). Anaheim Motors was a wonderful place, it was big and had lots and lots of British cars. They pretty much imported anything British including Jensen-Healeys.
