Daryl.

I'ts not to bad a job just get your car safely and securely up in the air, loosen the clamping bolt at the upper and lower ends, you may have to spread the clamp a little to get it to move and just slide it up or down to feed it off the shafts, while your under there check for play in the bushing at the end of the steering column, it's a piece of plastic rubber crap that wears out in no time so you probably might need to change that at the same time, ( I fabbed one out of bronze so I wouldnt  have to do it again ), If you dont have enough room to slip the shaft off you may need to unbolt the steering rack to get a bit more room.

Good Luck

Brett.

If I remember correctly, the upper steering u-joint is NLA. I replaced the lower one with one from Delta, and if I recall when I told Jim I needed the lower one he mentioned that the upper one wasn't made anymore.

I could be wrong, but I think not.

There's one for sale on eBay right now.  Usual disclaimers.

Thank you for the reply's! I was feeling a little uncertain because the upper bolts look like they will be difficult to get to. I did check Delta and they told me that the joints are no longer avalible. Thanks for the tip on ebay.

I just removed the steering shaft to replace exhaust header gaskets yesterday.

The upper and lower bolts should be removed from couplers, pull them completly out, as there is a flat milled on the shaft to keep it on if the bolts become loose.  Remove driver side nut on steering rack and loosen passenger side nut. This gives you movement to slide rack forward to get lower coupler off rack shaft. Spread couplers and remove. Try to keep steering wheel alingment so you don't have to remove steering wheel to reposition it. I also clamped the steering shaft so it would not slide up in the housing when assembling the upper coupler.

Good luck
