Please forgive my ignorance, but I am confused over the rack lubrication.
I did a search and didn't find my question addressed.
The boots failed on mine, so the oil leaked out.  I took the boot off and saw that there was no inner seal.
Based on the responses I found, it appears that the rack gets filled with lube and the boots act as a reservoir.  Is that correct?  We are filling the boots up and the lube gets carried through the internals by the steering action. Is that correct?

I read that. Didn't see where it addressed the inner seal issue I'm lost on. Thanks for the link though.

Ordered new boots and tie rod ends. Going to button it up and fill it with GL4. Then see what happens

Takes 90 weight 0.25 pints(was in the short 68 page original workshop manual, page 17, but for some reason was left out of the modern one that most of us have??). I take the 2 bolts off the top coverplate and inject it in. If you have the boots off, smearing some MoS2 (molybdenum Disulfide) onto the the shafts will help.
