When inspecting the front bearing I removed the hub rotors asm, looking to separate the rotor from the hub . But I found a large flat disc about 5" dia pressed on to the rotor and covering the rotor bolts. It looked like the dust seal was attached to it. How do you remove the part? The manual doesn't show this part.

Diagram doesn't show part, part is attached to backside of rotor. When you pull the hub off the rotor and mystery part is attached. I believe it is part of the dust seal and appears to be pressed on. You could maybe pry it off, there are no visible fasteners. The car is a 1973 vin 12444. Maybe an early design?

Actually, the press on dust disc was of later design; we remove them and replace with a standard seal as most of the early brakes had(parts book says "pre January, 1974, but no chassis #).
The later ones used this shield with a plain totally rubber seal behind it which really did not protect very well(sorry, don't have part # for seal, but just measure the diameters

I was also stumped for awhile by that dust shield when I first encountered it. It is just a press fit and can be easily prized off with a couple of large screwdrivers, and tapped back on.

Yes, I got a reply from Martin Robey early JH 's had a large dust shield with seal. Prying off is all you do.
Thanks for all your replies.
