In the process of installing my distributor I stuck my finger in the hole and felt the spring in the pump was still there. Does that need to center perfectly on the distributor drive? in other words, should I remove the spring and place it on the center drive and install the whole assembly? Second question, I found a small spring, about 3/4" long, maybe 3/16 diameter laying on the engine under the distributor...is this a crucial part or extra junk on my engine? It looks like a large pen spring....Thanks for any input. |

The spring behind the distributor should mount in the recessed hole in the oil pump shaft. The distributor butts up against in when in place. Without seeing the other spring I can not be sure where it came from. My best guess is it is either the throttle return spring or the pump rod spring from one of your Dellorto carbs. Where in NY are you? |
