I think I may be forgetting things.... Our JH was leaking coolant from under the radiator cap when the engine came up to temp. I think this one is rated too high for the car...I looked in the service manual and could not find the specs for the cap. Can anyone tell me what is the correct pound rating for a new cap?? I can look at my cap tonight (assuming it's marked) if no one gets you an answer in the meantime. I can't guarantee mine is the original cap, though. |

Sorry. Missed this one. The cooling system is rated at just 10 psi (as per shop manual). The OEM radiator cap was 7 PSI. I noticed most vehicles I've seen are running 13 psi caps. I believe it's because the 7 psi caps are harder to find. |

Hi Frank, page 7 of the shop manual states the cooling system is rated for 10PSI. I see RockAuto UK sells the 7# cap for the JH. I understand...the book does say 10 pounds, but I have yet to find where anywhere it states that the radiator cap is of any pounds...and none of are sure, I think, of what really came on the car...I am still looking..and in the parts book, it is merely shown as part #92013...which is ????? |

I feel that the manufacturer of radiator caps doesn't sell just any cap for the JH. They sell the 7# cap. They have liability if they sell the incorrect cap and it causes an injury. Have you called Mike at Delta? Cheers, Kurt |

Frank, 7 psi cap is what came from the factory with the car. I am sure since I bought the car new in 1974. You would not want a cap with a pressure rating higher than the systems as it would not protect the system. Think of it as a fuse. Mine has always been 7 psi and it has never blown coolant yet. |

The original cap on my UK spec car was 9lbs. They cap to be used should be 10lbs. ~!5lbs is regarded as safe for the cooling system. I run my car at 86 degrees C and zero pressure because of a suspected head gasket failure more than a year ago, no problems, no coolant loss whatsoever. Kees Oudesluijs |
