I had the smell of coolant inside the car and investigated to find the drivers side floor pan with coolant pooling. I found the leak at the heating coil (not sure if that is the name)- It doesn't look like an easy repair to pull out- any ideas or tips would be great. thanks |

On the engine side of the fire wall, remove the two heater hoses from the heater core barbs and splice them together. You can find a metal hose barb splice at a hardware or home depot type store. Not certain of the hose id. You might also consider new hose clamps. This will completely bypass the heater core without issue until you decide if you actually want to remove and repair the heater core. Good luck John |

Take a look at this article: http://www.theymightberacing.com/Projects/FrameOff/JH74G/HeaterAssemblyRestoration.aspx And, There's a fair bit of spelunking necessary to get the unit out. You'll have to remove the section of the console where the stereo resides, as well as the plate behind it. Plan on spending a few hours getting it out. There's a bit o a flaw in the overall design of the heater box assembly. The heater core inside the box is stabilized inside the unit with a couple pieces of large cell styrofoam. Over time the foam breaks down or gets crushed which allows the core to move around inside the unit. Yours has probably been bouncing around in there a while. Jody |
