I was installing one of Pete's Damper Kits to my MkII this weekend only to be surprised to find a crack in my firewall. I didn't think I would have to be welding a straightening plate to my fire wall. It may be a good idea to take a small mechanics mirror and look under your mounting bracket to your firewall and see what's going on. By the way, the new damper (shock) is more than 2X larger than the original. It's a big improvement over the stock one. Dan Collier 74JH 14381 2.2L JHPPG[code]

Hi Dan, please tell me more about the damper, where you got it from and why it is a big improvement over the stock one. i'm awaiting my new engine. My engine damper looks still ok but a little soft (i can easily push it in with both hands) and the rubber bushings seem worn. thanks Erik JH 15175, Netherlands

I've noticed that those dampers are a bit soft. Even when new, you will able to compress it by hand without too much effort, it's part of the design. For most owners, just making sure that the damper is mounted securely is all that's needed. The bolts should fit very tight in the mounts on either side without any play.
