Was poking around the net and found a resource that noted valve shims for a Lotus Europa can be bought at Detroit Deisel (they're not made for the Lotus, but they fit fine)! Perhaps such a similar option can be found for the 907... Otherwise, I wasn't able to find any shim sets on the JH store...where have others been able to find shims? Delta? I've seen numbers like $1.25 a shim bandied about...sound about right?

I found the following on the old board. I own an old 900 Saab (my Son's car). I should pull the valve cover off and have a look. Brian http://www.jensenhealey.com/msgboard.mv?parm_func=showmsg+parm_msgnum=1002435 http://www.thesaabsite.com/shop/search.php

Sorry the saab link above doesn't take you to the shims (like it did for me). You'll have to Search their site for Saab 900 79-94 Valve Shims They are listed at $2 each Brian

The shims used in the 907 were previously used in some other Lotus engine. Possibly this was their twin-cam, which, IIRC, was used in the Europa. (Or not. I can barely spell Lotus and am certainly not an expert on them! :^}) IIRC, it was Kurt Housh who discovered that Saab 900 valve shims also fit. These, however, are listed with metric dimensions and come in 0.05mm (~0.002") increments. The last time I checked -- two or three days ago -- the JHPS warehouse store was still offering JH valve shims. If this is no longer the case, you can always contact Delta Motorsports. $1.25 a shim was a fair price in 1990. Expect to pay $2 to $3.75 each, today.

There are some listed at the Club Store (I need to add more sizes) at http://www.jhps.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=Warehouse&Product_Code=93613 A long, long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away you could get quality shims for $1.25. The club and Delta sell them for the same cost these days, most are $2.25 each, some sizes are $3.25. I've heard all year TR-7 shims will work, or certain year Jaguar shims and some Saab stuff. I'm sure somebody can add more detail to this.

I can take no credit for 'discovering' anything, just doing the research and posting to the forum. IIRC the SAAB shims that fit are from the 8 valve 900 series, I'm not sure about the 16 valve version. The TR7 motor IS the SAAB 900 motor. SAAB bought the rights and made it work properly and stop leaking. In fact they made the damn thing bulletproof. Too bad GM bought them. Kurt
