Finally got my 73 on the road after 23 years of storage and now that the new exaust system is on I can hear all these new sounds. The transmission has a low humming sound (almost a whine) in all gears the pitch changes as the RPM's increase. Is this normal or should I inspect the trans. (Oil in trans is full 20-50) Rory 73 J-H #13218

The 4 speeds can be a bit whiny, more so as time goes on. Rebuilt ones always seem to whine the most, not sure why that is. I've found that running a good quality synthetic oil can quite down some of that and make it shift easier in colder weather.

Thanks Greg. Thought about the synthetic but I can live with the sound. Kinda adds character. Rory
