Has anybody replace their speedometer gear? How do you remove it from the main shaft? I don't want to damage anything further than it already is. |

On the shaft and inside the steel inner part of the gear there is a ribbed piece of sheet metal which is sort of sprung loaded between the output shaft's boss were the gear is positioned and the ID of the gears metal hub. I have driven the gear off the shaft with a hammer and punch being careful to go around and around to move the gear down the shaft as evenly as I can. Once you have serviced the the 4 speed gear box I used some tubing to set the gear back onto the shaft as this is square and keeps the pressing operation even on re-positioning the gear.
