While putting the front of the engine back together, I discovered that the bolt that passes through the tensioner adjuster is stripped. The aluminum threads in the engine are gone. The bolt itself doesn't look too bad. It always felt a little flakey to me, but has always tightened up fine before. Not so lucky this time. Has anyone experienced this and (more importantly)....what to do now? Helicoil? It there enough meat left in the block to go oversize? All suggestions welcome. Thanks.

Hi I had the same issue on my 79 engine. I changed to the semi automatic tensioner which uses two other holes. I guess that if you have to repair the thread it must be 100% parallel with all other axles which for seemed impossible to do in free hand. There is some explanations in my thread ( Blue smoke ) BR Barthol

I have not had this experience but seeing you have had no input on your problem the way I would go would be a heli-coil, you end up using the same hole which is aligned for the bearing and also the same size bolt. Hope it works for you. Brett

I would Helicoil it back to the stock size, then use a stud and nut instead of a bolt. Aluminum is soft and not really meant to have bolts installed and removed several times.
