Hi Ive got two engines , one from a 1972 car and one from a 1973 car. Engine numbers A72040046 and A72032231 respectively. Please can someone explain these as they don't make sense to me. The A72040046 looks to be a newer engine but comes from a later car. (may have been replaced) however the oil pump housing on A72040046 is different from A72032231 and the two are not interchangeable. what is also a puzzle is that A72032231 which apears to be the earlier engine has the oil pump housing that is the same as later Lotus engines as I found out when using a later Lotus short engine for the rebuild. Hope this makes sense thanks R

A 72 04 0046 means it was built in 1972, in April, and is engine 0046 making it one of the earliest 907's built. Since Jensen effectively did the testing on the 907, that early engine is more of a curiosity than something you want to put in your car. I would be interested in the cam specifications due to rumors that wild cams were installed in some of the early cars. kurt

Thanks Kurt Does that make A72032231, 1972 March Number 2231 which is odd as its a month older than the other one but with much later engine number. As for cams I'm a bit concerned now! as I can't remember which engine the ones I used came from, I just used the best two. Having said that there wasn't much to choose between them. would it be obvious by looking that they were different or are they stamped with a code? R

As I said, these are rumors. The later Lotus 107 cam is obviously different from the "c" cam in the JH. If they look the same, I wouldn't worry about it. Kurt

Ok Thanks Both sets of cams came out of a JH but the lotus short engine came without any ancilleries as well as no oil pump housing or Head ( I think the engine number for the Lotus engine was DC7770313567 R
