I know that it has been a topic of discussion before, but I just found out that the 318 crankshaft journal is the same size as the Lotus 907 2.4995/2.5005. Is it true then that all we have to do is have our blocks line bore to the 318 Chrysler size and just use the bearings? Hope to hear from you soon. Ricardo |

Judson Manning was the guy who used to do such things. Unfortunately, he is not active on this board. Frank S. was trying to reach him recently, any luck Frank? Previous posts indicate that the bearings were customized before fitting. The tabs and oil holes are the obvious areas of concern. Good Luck, Kurt |

Thank you Kurt, hope someone else have some experience in the matter and can add some light on the subject. |

I have not done this myself, but in some ways it sounds like a great solution to ever more expensive, semi-obsolete engine bearings. You'll need to find a good machine shop that won't mind working on your project. The biggest issue is the cost of all the machining to accomplish this, which unfortunately may cost more than just buying the bearings that fit to begin with. The real payoff is when you rebuilt again down the road. If you'll be doing some racing and expect to rebuild often then you'll be spreading that cost around and saving money in the long run. |

Thanks Fletcher, I'll find out this week by asking a couple of very reliable machine shops in my area and see what they say. Will keep you posted |

If I am not much mistaken, the block has to be align bored after 10-doweling the bearing frame, right? In that case it makes sense to bore it for the Chrysler bearings rather than the Lotus bearings. -- Joachim |
