Removed cover for rear axle to drain the oil & found that no gasket or sealant was present, is anything required to prevent leakage?

Rob & JH #14120 (what is the reason a red dot appears next to my name on the posts I've made ?)

There is suppose to be a gasket. Delta has them. Or make your own.

I'm not sure what the red dot is for.
