This turned out to be such an easy fix I had to post in case anyone else has these symptoms. Since I bought the car finding the gears has been iffy. The shift lever felt sloppy and rough and finding the right gear was always difficult. I was expecting to have to repair the linkage or worse. Removing the center console to get a closer look I saw that the square metal cap at the base of the lever was loose. 1 screw was missing and the other 3 were loose. I vacuumed around the area then removed the cap. Everything seemed ok within so I added a tiny bit of lithium grease on the plastic disc and reassembled. The difference is amazing. Shifting is now smooth and precise. I’ll probably never get off that easy on a repair for this car again! Now I just need to save up for one of Pete’s boot kits. |
