I recently purchased #14592 (1974) and needed to replace the front cover crankshaft oil seal. The engine had been replaced with what I was told was a 1975 engine and is missing some parts. The crank pulley is 2 3/4" face to face and has 2 V-belt notches in it.Can anybody tell me what the second/outside notch is for? How can I tell what year engine I have? |

The extra notch should be for the AC compressor, presumably that engine had the optional dealer installed air conditioning put on when it was new. If you get the engine number, you can look that up in the The Chassis Data Book and see what car it came in. It's located at the back of the block, Federal driver side, near the sump, facing down toward the ground.[ img][/img] Attachment: Engine_Number.jpg (Downloaded 106 times) |

Thanks Greg, The number I found was 10731. The number was located per picture but on the passenger-side of car/ Intake-side of engine. I only have a shop manual, do you have info. on this engine? I asked about pulley because of tight clearance issues. To clear the crank pulley, the water pump pulley has a 1 3/8" spacer to backside of fan. This puts front of fan blades 1/4" - 5/16from radiator (bottom of fan blades). Should I be concerned? Thanks, Bill Last edited on 03-21-2008 02:54 am by mnunes22 |
