I'm not sure of how the VIN series is categorized, it does seem to be an early car, as the motor I.D. shows it was produced in December of 1972, does anyone know the starting series for the JH cars?

Thank you Nigel. From Richard Calver's article you linked to: "In general, the Mk.1s can be distinguished from the Mk.2s by their more spartan interiors, by their square-section headlight surrounds (the nacelles of which should be painted in body colour rather than black as on the later cars), plainer bumpers, lack of body rubbing strips and their chassis numbers which lie in the range 10001 to 13349."
