Hi
I am looking for the Vin number in my car,
I have found the plates on the drivers door , on the dash board and the plate on the front cross member in the engine bay.

Question: should the number also be stamped in the metal some ware in the car.

I have really searched, but i cannot find it.

Anyone who knows where to find it.

Vin is 17868
paint code GIP LSC24213 ( Anyone who can identify this color) , the car is black now.
Engine number is B74 07 8403
I got a spare 2,2 engine ( converted) DL907 79 03 16147 ( can anyone tell from which car this engine came)

Best regards
kim

Hi
Cars of this age didn't have a VIN number, just a chassis number. The number will be stamped onto a metal plate which will be welded to the top of the front chassis leg. It may be hidden under the air filter box. I've got two cars with this plate welded on different sides. Sorry i can't help with the spare engine number though.

Elite/Eclat/907

OK then, It's also coded into the engine number.
The number will be in the form D (C) 907 76 06 12844 The 907 is engine type obviously, 76 is the year, 06 the month and 12844 the serial number. The first 1 or 2 letters give the options:
Single letter:
D - Domestic Std D cams 1974
G - Domestic A/C D cams 1974
J - Domestic A/C & PAS D cams 1974

F - Federal Std C cams 1974
I - Federal A/C C cams 1974
K - Federal A/C & PAS C cams 1974

X - Domestic Std C cams 1975
W - Domestic A/C C cams 1975
Y - Domestic PAS C cams 1975
L - Domestic A/C & PAS C cams 1975
AML - Domestic Auto, A/C & PAS C cams 1975 What does AML mean?

P - Federal Std C cams 1975
N - Federal A/C C cams 1975
N - Federal PAS C cams 1975
M - Federal A/C & PAS C cams 1975

2 prefix letters - first letter:
D=1976-1980 European E cams
B=1976-79 California 1976-77 49-state C cams
G=49-state introduced 1978 C cams
K=California 1980- C cams

2nd letter:
C - Standard
D - A/C
Z - PAS
L - A/C + PAS
R - Auto
S - Auto & A/C
T - Auto & PAS
M - Auto, A/C & PAS

The engine number format above is Lotus' format for the 907, and correct for Kim's spare engine. Jensen-Healey engine numbers have their own similar but different format, as you can see from Kim's numbers.

> Engine number is B74 07 8403 (J-H format).
> spare 2,2 engine (converted) DL907 79 03 16147 (Lotus format).
