I'm wondering does anyone know if there was originally a trim strip at the top of the rocker, just below the door bottoms? I'm cleaning my rockers prepping for paint and at the top of the rocker there seems to be what's left of an adhesive strip. I thumbed through several JHPS back issues(thanks Greg) and it looks like some J-Hs have it but most don't. Any ideas?

It was a dealer add on as you have seen.

redracer,

I know in the '70s aftermarket chrome plastic ding strips were very popular but it seems odd that dealers would add chrome strip below the door. Do you know if this strip was plastic or metal?

It was plastic, similar to the ones the dealers might put
on the front fenders, through the middle of the door and ending on the rear fender.
I wouldn't put them on because they trapped water on the rocker causing rust holes to appear

redracer,

Thanks for the info it will definitely be helpful in my restoration. The 70s was certainly an odd ball time where a lot of goofy things were tried. As Road&Track writer Peter Egan once described it "the 70s was the golden age of shoddy workmanship". With all that it's amazing that such a superior sportscar as the Jensen-Healey was able to emerge.

I'm not exactly sure what "Kool-Aid" you're talking about? Apparently you thought the AMC Pacer and the Mustang II among others were great ideas.
