Has anyone painted a hard top. I have two of them. One has some minor scratches. I want to repair these and then paint it. Not sure what would be the best paint to use. Any suggestions.

Just a suggestion ... you'll want to decide what "sheen" you're looking for. https://duplicolor.com/product/trim-and-bumper-paint This has flat or gloss available: https://duplicolor.com/product/vinyl-and-fabric-coating Last edited on 06-07-2017 12:45 pm by Sander |

I used "vinyl paint" that was available at the auto paint store. Also used it on the steering wheel. It will say something about being good for upholstery and hard plastic surfaces. Sprays on thin, so may or may not cover scratches.

Thanks for the recommendations. I have a spare wheel I am going to try it on before the top. I also need to replace the rubber seals. Need to find a source.

Thanks Brett for the link. I am also checking Metro and Steele rubber products to see if they a profile close.

IIRC I used a TR6 header rail seal for the JH header and Triumph or MG door seals to seal around the side windows. My top to body seal was OK. I am still trying to source the rear window chrome/mylar trim/lockstrip. Any suggestions? Thanks ~ Rick

Thanks for the leads. I have two tops. One is a factory and one is after market. The factory top has a black lockstrip in the rubber rear window molding and the after market top has a chrome lockstrip. I need to get new window molding for both. If you run across any sources let me know.

My 1986 Volkswagen Westfalia has a similar plastic lock strip around it's windows, I know you can get it both in black or chrome, Go-Westy and Bus Depot I believe carry it. I have to mention I have not removed the lock strip from my hard top to compare them together, but visually they do look alike. Brett

Just got my catalogs from Metro and Steele Rubber Products. I noticed the Steele has locking strips with chrome face on page 5.

Brett & Dick - Thanks for sharing but the sizes and shapes won't work. I initially thought a TR4-6 windshield trim might work but found it to be wrong as well. Since the top already has the black lock strip installed, I guess I'll just stick with that.
