My 74 is blocked, primed and ready to go to the paint shop. Would like to find a red close to original. No one local has a paint code for a 74 JH. Any one have a suggestion?

If you haven't yet, you can search the forum for this topic. I took a quick look and found a few specific colors such as orange and blue, but no red.

For what it's worth, I painted mine Cardinal Red (they also called it Candy Apple Red, really common color on 60s and 70s Fords) which is close, though I don't know that it meets your definition of "close". I used PPG 71528 single stage urethane.

A nice old guy at the local paint store did some searching and found my paint color (Brookland's Green) under British Motor Corporation.  You could also have them check under Jaguar or Triumph.  The most beautiful red I have seen was on a 1966 TR4.

Thanks guys for the information. It doesn't have to be the exact original red. I like the cardinal red and will see if I can find a chip for the TR4.

If you're curious how the Cardinal Red turned out, this should give you an idea (plus I just like posting pictures):

Just got back from a trip and saw your reply. I think I just decided on the color. Thanks for the picture. Hope mine turns out as well. We are in Arizona for the winter where my cars are. Our summers are in Wisconsin Rapids, WI. I would love to see your car sometime. My e-mail is rfickey@wctc.net

I also have a paint question regarding the 2 yellows on the latest tech tip. My 73 JH is ready for paint and I would like to keep it original. I believe mine is the "Butter cup" yellow PPG code 82221. What does the other listed yellow look like?
