The footwells in my JH become water tanks when it rains. Has anyone ever succeeded in making one watertight? (Other than a GT) |

A lot of water can come in from the pedal box if it is not sealed well, and the same for any penatrations of the firewall, the transmission tunnel is also another area especialy if you get it when moving. Brett |

Ah ha The water that I'm getting seems to be a lot more than what could just come in from the seals (or lack thereof) between the soft top and the windscreen/windows - mine even filled up when I left her out in a shower with the hardtop on - so water coming in from the pedal box etc might explain it. Will do some poking around and thanks for the tip - watch this space. (At least I know there are no holes in the floor pan...) |

I cured the top to window leak by adding to the seal that should already be there on the top, a 1/4" thick by 1" strip of high density foam, and add extra at the corners, most places have it but McmasteCarr has a very good selection. Brett |

I managed to keep out 90% of the water I was previously getting in the footwell by cleaning up and repairing the rusty parts of the firewall under tand around where the battery sits. The hardtop on my car was also in average shape, repainted the outside with balck vinyl paint, inside with gloss white, the hinges black, replaced att the bottom seals, the top one where it sits on the windscreen, etc. I'd post a picture but it's in storage and pretty hard to get at - all that work and I never use it. |

Brett I was concerned with the soft top and the leaks right at the top of the A pillars . It sounded like you had poured in some silicone sealant to fill the void . I was interested to see what that looked like |

David, I dont have any good pictures of what I did but I tried a bit of RTV and didn't have much luck with that, it worked out better to use the foam I mentioned ealier and just place an extra wad in the corners, I also used a self sticking foam but reinforced it with extra contact cement to make sure it stayed put. Of course this year I put a new top on and did not seal the top as I had in the past and ended up with two soggy occupants so when I make the improvements I'l send you a post, but may not be till Spring. Cheers. Brett |
