I am very new to this car. (I have a decent background working with mostly japanese imports) I was wondering if anyone in my area would be able to recommend a shop for fine tuning. I am FAR from having it in running shape, and frankly, I'm concerned that I may not know enough about her to get her to run. I am just a weekend mechanic who likes to play with cars. This is my first attempt at a restoration of this magnitude. (It's in pretty bad shape) I'm sure everyone will be seeing posts from me quite often. If you have any recommendation of a shop within 100 miles (thanks AAA) of Sacramento please post. Heck, any recommendations from everyone who has restored a JH that has been sitting for a long while would be very welcome. I'm a young kid so go easy on me. Until next time, thanks and good driving...

I can recommend my friend the professional mechanic.  The shop where he's working at the moment, which IIRC is near Pittsburg CA, has had at least some experience with JHs -- in fact they had one there just a few weeks ago.  You can contact him by email:  Robert McCarl, robertmccarl@hotmail.com  and, if you wish, mention that I referred him to you.  After that you're on your own.  Disclosure: family friend, but I have no financial interest.

There's also a shop in Stockton CA called British Car Specialists, 2060 N. Wilson Way.  I haven't ever dealt with this shop myself, but have been told that they have a good reputation.  Usual disclaimers on this one.

OTOH, if you have lots of time and space, but a limited budget, you can do most of the work involved in a restoration yourself, and can hire a mechanic for those few things that really do take professional skills.  Write down everything that seems wrong on the car.  Pick an item from the list, ask questions about it on this forum, then fix whatever's wrong.  Repeat as necessary until you run out of things to fix.

Good luck and have fun.

Hmm, I've been driving mine for over a year since I "finished" the restoration. I still haven't run out of things to fix.
