Rusty is still in intensive care, but may come out of his coma soon. The latest snag is the drive line. Recall that I am swapping in a five speed that was pulled from another JH. The trans came with a single piece drive line, but when I went to bolt the cursed thing in, it didn’t fit! Argh! How is that for being born under a bad sign? Turns out the flange sizes were changed between model years, so it isn’t a bolt in. A drive line service quoted me $750 for a new drive line, but I am not going there amigo. Stay tuned for the final chapter in this little drama. Another oddity with the swap; The rear end of the transmission would not align with the transverse transmission mount, no matter what I did. I suppose that when I welded in the bolts for the transverse mount I may have had them mispositioned a bit. Anyway, I ended up getting some 1/2" spacers from the hardware store, and some slightly longer 8mm mounting bolts for the tranny. Put the spacers between the tranny and its rear bracket, then the transverse mount lined up perfectly. Crisis avoided! =:-o Researched batteries and the 51R looks like the correct unit, the shop manual was zero help as it specified some Lucas battery size on which I could not find any information. Put in a new diff seal, and tossed in the alternator which it turns out will not accept the plug on the wiring harness (mumble). So I ordered the correct plug from British wiring and am now waiting, again. Also ordered a new engine harness from Auto Sparks since my existing harness is very brittle and when I move it wires start cracking which exposes copper. Bad mojo.
