So he says to find a replacement 5 speed or a 4 speed. I really would like a replacement 5 speed. So i was led to this forum. If anyone has a spare to sell that is a known good one please let me know. I still have to address other issues after getting it running like replace all the brake hydraulics and the top etc.
Thanks again for any leads. Oh and one other thing, I don't know if there were other variants of the 5 speed or not but its the 5 speed where 1st gear is where a normal 2nd be on a regular car?? Sorry, my first Jensen. Not familiar with this stuff at all.
The five speed is a Getrag "dog leg" 235 transmission, used in Jensen Healeys, Mercedes 190s, period BMWs (notably the BMW 2002) and others. It is called a "dog leg" because of the unconventional shift pattern.
They are all over the place on eBay so are not hard to find. What is difficult is to find someone who thinks they worth less than $3k. Lots of them are pulls and in unknown condition, and yet people think they are made of unobtanium. Sheesh.
A little patience will serve you well.
My point is that they are not hard to find. There are also parts on eBay if you wish to rebuild your 'box. Your call.
