Thanks all

For a car that is almost half a century old, it runs extremely well.

The voltage gauge did hover around 11 - 12v; typically it was around 14 - 15v.

The battery and alternator are almost brand new and I've had no problems with these two gauges until now. They failed at the same time which made me think that it must be a component that they share.

I'll order a new voltage stabiliser, and give the connections a good clean.

I didn't know about the 'ignition' light; will check it tomorrow.

Thanks again, watch this space.
