I used a #3 Phillips which seemed to work ok to get them apart, but then I went across the street to the hardware store and got socket head Allen screws to replace. Much easier to torque.

As far as adjusting, what I did was to get all the screws in loosely and then put a hydraulic floor jack with a towel over it under the part of the door I wanted to lift.
