I managed to keep out 90% of the water I was previously getting in the footwell by cleaning up and repairing the rusty parts of the firewall under tand around where the battery sits.

The hardtop on my car was also in average shape, repainted the outside with balck vinyl paint, inside with gloss white, the hinges black, replaced att the bottom seals, the top one where it sits on the windscreen, etc. I'd post a picture but it's in storage and pretty hard to get at - all that work and I never use it.
